Meet Leigh - Infant and Toddler Sleep Consultant
Welcome to the Sleep Spot - I’m so glad you’re here!
I am a mom of two, a wife, and a public health professional with a passion for helping babies, parents, and families thrive. I hold a Master of Education from the University of Minnesota and have spent the last 15 years working in public health, specializing in maternal and child, reproductive, and sexual health.
My husband is a Pediatric Cardiologist serving patients across central and greater Minnesota. When I am not working, you’ll find me spending time with my family, cooking, or teaching Pure Barre in the Twin Cities.
I am so excited to meet you and partner with your family on your sleep journey!
My Journey to Starting The Sleep Spot
How The Sleep Spot Began
Like many of you, my journey into sleep training began after the birth of my first baby and I hit a level of exhaustion I had never experience before. With the support of a friend, at around 4 months old I began sleep training for my son. I am so grateful we took that step and for the support I had during that time. Helping our son build a foundation for healthy sleep not only benefited his well-being, but completely changed our family life. My husband and I felt more rested, more connected, and more confident as we grew into our roles as parents.
After seeing first hand, the benefit of sleep training, I became fascinated with the science of sleep. After working more than a decade in maternal and child health, I knew the importance of safe sleep practices, but was also aware of the lack of supportive resources for parents on how to achieve that. I read every book, article, and resource I could find, determined to understand how to support babies in getting their healthiest, most restorative rest.
A few years later, we welcomes our daughter, and this time, I felt empowered. I had the tools and confidence to set the same strong sleep foundation for her. As I began sharing our story of successful (and not scary!) sleep training, friends and colleagues stared reaching out for guidance. Supporting other families through their own sleep journeys became one of the most rewarding parts of my life, and eventually inspired me to launch The Sleep Spot in 2021.
My approach to sleep training is realistic, supportive, and most importantly individualized. I know that no two families are the same, and that what works for one family may not work for another. My goal is to understand each family’s unique sleep goals and needs and help them identify the best method to get there. I follow research-based, age-appropriate methods that honor children’s biological rhythms and developmental ages.
After lots of research, I received training through an international sleep program, depending my understanding of child development and effective sleep training approaches. My background in public health keeps me committed to staying current with the latest research, trends, and resources. I follow all American Academy of Pediatrics recommendations for safe sleep.
I am here to support your family to establish predictable routines, help your child (and you!) get the rest you need, and build a plan that works just for you.
